Aah, to get away from it all. No matter how content you are in your daily life, getting out of your familiar surroundings once in a while is so refreshing. The change of scenery inspires you to look. To pay attention. You notice things you wouldn’t otherwise. Small, beautiful details of someone else’s daily life. The color of a shutter. The beautiful decay of a wall. The greenery in a village made of stone.
Looking out over the hills, you zoom out, widen your gaze and get a sense of space, not only out there, but in here
Besides a change of scenery, there’s also a change of pace. You take the time to pay attention, to slow down, to explore. Not weighing myself down with a tight schedule, gets me in my natural rhythm: where moments are enjoyed as long as they last, where being active and being passive are reflections of how I feel, where reading and dreaming is alternated with the best conversation and there is time enough for it all.
With luck, you remember this when you’re back again, and life’s many have-tos start taking over. Remember to look up sometimes or to zoom out when you need to and to always save enough time in the day to enjoy the things that matter most to you.
