It’s that time of year again: the holidays are upon us and so is the gift giving season. When you’re passionate about consuming consciously, this might make you a little uncomfortable. But everybody loves to spoil their loved ones once in a while and most of us also like to be on the receiving end of such generosity. When you go about gift giving and receiving consciously, it can be very merry indeed. Just remember: the best gift is a gift for all involved.
So make sure your gift is:
WANTED. Giving a gift that isn’t wanted, is a triple shame: the receiver is disappointed, you’ve wasted your money and you’ve created waste. Some people are hard to buy for, even if you know them well or have stalked their pinterest boards religiously. If you don’t know, ASK. There’s no shame is asking.
DURABLE. Gift giving season is actually the perfect time to tick all those conscious consuming boxes, because who would want to gift (or get) a gift that falls apart after a few uses? Make sure your non-edible gifts last as long as your friendship and opt for fewer, better things.
SUPPORTING THE THINGS YOU CARE ABOUT. Give the gift of changing the world! When you support businesses that care for their employers and the earth, you’re helping them continue to do their good work while sending a message to traditional retailers that you won’t support anything less.
To help you shop small this holiday season, I’m joining in the good cheer of Small Business Saturday. From now through December 4th, take 20% off your order with coupon code SHOPSMALL.
For international orders, December 4th is also the cut-off date for Christmas delivery. All orders arrive ready for gift giving, or you can have me include a personal message and I’ll send it directly to the lucky receiver!
